About Sit-N-Knit

Welcome to Sit-n-Knit Yarn Shop and thank you for taking the time to find our website!  My name is Maureen Carlson and I am the owner and chief knitter for Sit-n-Knit.  I have been knitting for over 40 years and knit every day and everywhere.  I welcome everyone to the shop, whether you are a seasoned knitter or never held knitting needles in your hands.  You can come in to ask questions, get help with a project, take a knitting class, or just relax and knit inside the store.  My store came about due to my love of knitting and being around other knitters.

Before Sit-n-Knit, I owned a beauty shop in this location for 12 years. About 3 years before closing the beauty shop, I started offering a line of yarn.  When my partner decided to retire, I decided to turn my shop into a complete, full-service knitting shop.  To me, knitting is like meditation; it clears my head and is relaxing.  I do not consider my shop to be work, I love being here and meeting new customers or sitting in the shops back room knitting with others while drinking coffee and chatting!

The shop has SO MUCH to offer you!  I carry all sizes of needles from tiny four-zero for knitting lace, to 50 for thick and warm scarves.  There are needles made of glass, metal, bamboo and wood.  I also carry needles with little lights on top for knitting in the dark as well as needles that glow in the dark.  As you walk in the store, you will see the huge variety of yarns that are available.  There are yarns made from silk, wool, cotton, llama, baby alpaca, camel hair, bamboo, hemp and plastic bottles.

I encourage you to take a trip to downtown Knoxville, where Sit-n-Knit Yarn shop awaits you. Come to look around, buy some supplies or enjoy a cup of coffee and conversation.  No matter what you come for, I assure you Sit-n-Knit Yarn Shop will be worth your drive!
